Hayden Christensen Gets 'Royal Pains' Contract Suit Reopened

Law360, New York (June 26, 2012, 8:41 PM EDT) -- The Second Circuit on Tuesday revived a lawsuit by “Star Wars” actor Hayden Christensen, who says he and his brother pitched an idea to Universal Television Network Inc. for a TV series that eventually became “Royal Pains,” but never saw a penny from it.

The appeals court said the district court was wrong in dismissing the suit and accepting the network's argument that the brothers' breach of contract claim was preempted by copyright law. The Christensens had alleged only breach of contract, not copyright infringement....
