Judge Shuts Book On Class In Scholastic Photo IP Suit

Law360, New York (July 16, 2012, 9:01 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge shot down a bid for class certification Monday in a copyright suit over Scholastic Corp.'s use of photographs in publications for a reading skills program, ruling that the need for individualized inquiries made class treatment inappropriate.

U.S. District Judge Katherine B. Forrest denied stock production house Palmer Kane LLC's motion for class certification, and said that getting to the bottom of the allegations would mean delving into a slew of relationships and interactions between Scholastic, photo rights owners and licensing agents....
