U.S. Justice Department Raids Distributors In Worldwide Crackdown On Online Piracy

Law360, New York (June 30, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a worldwide crackdown on online copyright-infringement, the U.S. Justice Department said it had netted roughly $50 million in pirated works in a raid targeting pirated software, games and movies in 11 countries.

Agents executed 90 search warrants in the U.S. and 10 other countries as part of an operation, dubbed “Operation Site Down.” The raids, which began Wednesday, shut down at least eight major online distributors and seized pirated works worth more than $50 million, authorities said.
