InterDigital Wins $232M+ Award From Nokia In International Arbitration

Law360, New York (July 4, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An international arbitration court has awarded wireless technology vendor InterDigital Communications Corp. more than $232 million in royalties from Finland’s mobile handset maker Nokia Corp.

Nokia had asked the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce to determine that it has no royalty obligations to the InterDigital unit based on the Ericsson and Sony Ericsson licenses.

However, the tribunal established royalty rates estimated to be worth $112 million, based on Nokia's sales of covered products from 2002 through 2006, InterDigital said.
