Judge OKs Settlement In Blockbuster Privacy Abuse Suit

Law360, New York (August 7, 2012, 5:15 PM EDT) -- A Minnesota federal judge on Tuesday granted preliminary approval of a consumer data class action settlement in which Blockbuster LLC will amend its privacy policy but won't provide monetary damages to plaintiffs who claimed the video rental chain illegally held onto their private information.

The deal requires Blockbuster to modify its privacy policy to state that all accounts are continuous unless affirmatively terminated, according to the motion for approval. The company also agreed to create a process for former subscribers to request to have their personal...
