Judge Calls DSW Wage-And-Hour Settlement 'Unseemly'

Law360, Los Angeles (August 9, 2012, 3:38 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge voiced concerns Thursday over a proposed $625,000 settlement resolving a statewide wage-and-hour class action against shoe retailer DSW Inc., saying the relatively low payment to employees and sizable request for attorney's fees appeared "unseemly."

More then a third of the proposed settlement, $208,333, would cover fees for plaintiffs' attorneys, which U.S. District Judge George H. Wu said exceeded Ninth Circuit guidelines.
