NFL, Ravens Say They Fairly Use Designer's Logo

Law360, New York (August 16, 2012, 12:25 PM EDT) -- NFL Enterprises LLC and the Baltimore Ravens asked a Maryland federal judge on Wednesday to toss allegations that historical photos and video clips featuring the football team's old logo violated the designer's copyrights, saying their use of the design was “patently transformative.”

In a motion seeking summary judgment, the NFL and the Ravens contended that the use of the “Flying B” logo in documentaries and photos of the team during the 1990s was protected under the doctrine of fair use and did not infringe the copyrights...
