New California Law Gets Leave For Military Spouses

Law360, New York (October 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an “urgency statute” Tuesday, instructing employers to allow military spouses up to 10 days of unpaid leave while their spouses are home on leave from deployment.

The bill, number AB 392, adapts California’s Military and Veterans Code, which provides certain benefits for members of the armed forces, the National Guard and the Reserves. The new leave requirement for military spouses, which applies to employers with at least 25 employees, will take effect immediately.
