Feds Win Bid To Withhold Social Networking Info In FOIA Suit

Law360, New York (September 28, 2012, 4:41 PM EDT) -- Several federal law enforcement agencies on Monday won a partial victory in a lawsuit brought by the Electronic Frontier Foundation over information requests it submitted about the agencies’ use of social media as an investigative tool.

The EFF submitted a series of related Freedom of Information Act requests in late 2009 to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Secret Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for documents including agency guidelines and manuals and procedures regarding agency use of social-networking sites in their investigations and to...
