Northrop, Others Duck Product Claims In Asbestos MDL

Law360, Philadelphia (October 4, 2012, 4:17 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania federal judge ruled Wednesday that a Navy ship is not a “product” under maritime law, dismissing product liability claims in a multidistrict litigation case over asbestos exposure against Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Todd Pacific Shipyards Corp. and General Dynamics Corp.

In the case that is part of an MDL over asbestos pending in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno ruled that the manufacturers of products on a ship, not the manufacturers of the ships themselves, bear the responsibility to protect workers...
