Disney To Pay $4B For 'Star Wars' Maker Lucasfilm

Law360, New York (October 30, 2012, 6:12 PM EDT) -- The Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it will buy production company Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.05 billion from legendary filmmaker George Lucas and produce a seventh "Star Wars" film in the science fiction franchise to be released in 2015.

Disney said it is acquiring Lucasfilm, which to date has been solely owned by Lucas, in a stock and cash transaction that represents one of the most significant acquisitions for the "Mouse House." Disney's media and entertainment portfolio already includes Marvel Entertainment, Pixar, ABC and ESPN....
