W.Va. AG Says Texas Firm Is Exploiting $25B Mortgage Deal

Law360, New York (November 2, 2012, 3:38 PM EDT) -- West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw sued Texas law firm Murray LLP on Thursday, slamming it for allegedly misleading consumers by charging fees for benefit services intended to be free under a landmark $25 billion mortgage settlement.

Murray, a recently created firm based in San Antonio, is exploiting consumers by persuading them they must pay to access the direct payments foreclosed homeowners are entitled to claim under the deal, McGraw said Thursday. The firm pockets 20 percent of those payments in the process, he said....
