Dole Misleads On Banana Farm Enviro Practices, Consumers Say

Law360, New York (November 14, 2012, 4:57 PM EST) -- A California consumer hit Dole Food Co. Inc. with a proposed nationwide class action Tuesday accusing it of lying about the ecological friendliness and sustainability of its banana-growing practices, saying the company destroys natural ecosystems and poisons local residents.

Plaintiff Clayton Laderer alleges that while Dole’s marketing materials portray its banana growing practices as safe and sustainable, in reality its methods contaminate water supplies, destroy wetlands, cause flooding, destroy the crops of local communities and cause illnesses in children.
