Judge Unplugs Class Action Over Video Game Co.'s Data Breach

Law360, New York (November 15, 2012, 3:30 PM EST) -- A California judge on Wednesday tossed a proposed class action accusing video game developer Valve Corp. of failing to adequately protect user information, saying the plaintiffs had failed to allege that they suffered harm from a November 2011 data breach.

Judge James L. Robart dismissed the nationwide class action after determining that each of the six counts raised in plaintiff Oliver Grigsby’s complaint require proof of harm or damages, and that Grigsby failed to plead any such harm with the specificity required under the Supreme Court’s...
