$13M Exotic Dancer Wage Settlement Gets Judge's OK

Law360, New York (November 19, 2012, 3:50 PM EST) -- A California federal judge approved a nearly $13 million settlement in a minimum wage class action brought by former Spearmint Rhino Co. exotic dancers alleging managers of the Spearmint Rhino chain and other gentlemen's clubs misclassified the dancers as independent contractors.

In addition to an agreed-upon $12,970,000 payout, the clubs, within six months, will no longer treat their dancers as independent contractors and will instead treat them as employees or owners, such as shareholders or partners, the settlement said. The agreement also eliminates stage fees for...
