JetBlue Launches Preemptive Suit Over Text Message Patents

Law360, New York (November 28, 2012, 6:13 PM EST) -- JetBlue Airways Corp. leveled a suit against patent management company Helferich Patent Licensing LLC in New York federal court Wednesday in a bid to block Helferich from pursuing litigation alleging infringement of text messaging patents.

According to the complaint, Helferich sent correspondence to JetBlue in June accusing the airline of infringing seven patents and offering "highly favorable 'prelitigation' licensing rates" which would likely increase if the case went to trial.
