EU Official Blasts U.S. Online Gambling Ban

Law360, New York (November 9, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Union's top trade official continued to lambaste the U.S. de-facto ban on online gambling during a visit to the U.S. capital, saying it discriminated against European companies.

“What we need to see is a change in U.S. legislation that removes that discrimination against EU operators,” E.U. Commissioner for External Trade Peter Mandelson told a group of reporters. “It's not in the interest of American consumers to have good responsible competitors in this market excluded by regulatory mechanisms.”
