FCA Recoveries Hit New $5B High In 2012, DOJ Says

Law360, Washington (December 4, 2012, 5:40 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it has collected nearly $5 billion in civil False Claims Act settlements and judgments — with more than half coming from health care fraud cases and $3.3 billion from whistleblower suits — during fiscal year 2012, shattering previous records.

The $4.96 billion in FCA recoveries included $3 billion from health care fraud cases alone, nearly equaling last year's $3.2 billion overall haul. According to the DOJ, its aggressive enforcement and settlement tactics will show no sign of waning....
