Ill. Gov. Must Honor Pay Raises For State Workers, Judge Says

Law360, New York (December 7, 2012, 6:20 PM EST) -- An Illinois state judge on Thursday ruled that the state must pay some 30,000 public employees wage increases that were supposed to go into effect in 2011, following extensive legal action over pay freezes that union leaders claimed were in violation of collective bargaining agreements.

Though Cook County Circuit Court Judge Richard Billick affirmed his earlier ruling that the state can't pay what was not appropriated in the state budget, he held that it must abide by the promises of wage increases it made in contracts...
