FCC Opens Spectrum, Paving Way For Dish To Go Wireless

Law360, New York (December 12, 2012, 10:29 PM EST) -- The Federal Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday approved Dish Network Corp.’s bid and converted 40 megahertz of spectrum for broadband services including 4G LTE, clearing the path for the satellite broadcaster to compete with wireless carriers including AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless.

The FCC said the move lifts restrictions on the spectrum, previously marked for satellite use only, and would allow much of the so-called AWS-4 spectrum band to be used for such services. Dish, which had invested $3 billion in acquiring 40 MHz of spectrum...
