Reporter Beats Copyright Claim Over NFL Draft Stories

Law360, New York (December 14, 2012, 2:47 PM EST) -- A Washington federal judge on Thursday nixed National Football Scouting Inc.'s copyright infringement claim against reporter Rob Rang over his use of the company's scouting reports in stories analyzing NFL prospects, but left to a jury the question of whether the scouting reports are a protected trade secret.

The dispute is over a series of posts published on Rang's “NFL Draft Blog” for between June 2010 and June 2011 that included NFS player grades indicating how successful a college player will be in the NFL....
