BofA Escapes Class Suit In Calif. Over Frozen Accounts

Law360, New York (December 17, 2012, 8:05 PM EST) -- Bank of America NA on Friday succeeded in ending a putative class action in California by customers alleging the bank violated state law and a deposit agreement by freezing accounts after receiving notices about out-of-state judgments from debt-collection attorneys.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernard G. Skomal granted BofA summary judgment on each of the claims in the case, ruling that the plain reading of the deposit agreement with BofA customers specifically mentions that the bank would have to comply with "legal process" in jurisdictions outside of California....
