Medical Waste Co. Pays $2M To Settle NY's Overcharge Claims

Law360, New York (January 8, 2013, 3:33 PM EST) -- Stericycle Inc. will pay $2.4 million to settle an ex-employee's whistleblower claims that the medical waste disposal company overcharged more than 1,000 New York government entities by hiding automated price increases for its services, New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Tuesday.

Schneiderman says that since 2003, Stericycle had implemented a plan to charge automated price increases to government customers across the state, including police and fire departments, schools, hospitals, and jails, without any notice. This violates the terms of the company's contracts, he says....
