United Uses Sham Office To Dodge Taxes, Chicago Says

Law360, New York (January 14, 2013, 5:05 PM EST) -- Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority on Monday accused a United Air Lines Inc. subsidiary of inking a deal with a suburban Illinois town that allows the airline to operate a sham office to dodge hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.

The RTA alleges United opened up a small, part-time office in Sycamore, Ill., from which the airline claimed to purchase fuel in an alleged attempt to avoid paying the high taxes from its corporate offices in Chicago.
