High Court Wins For Gay Marriage Could Simplify Benefits

Law360, New York (January 23, 2013, 9:17 PM EST) -- If the Supreme Court strikes down the Defense of Marriage Act and California's gay marriage ban, employers will have much to celebrate, with the rulings simplifying employee benefits administration by eliminating the discrepancy between state and federal tax treatment of married gay couples and possibly rendering domestic partner benefits unnecessary.
