Potash Cos. Pay $97.5M To End Long-Running Cartel Case

Law360, New York (January 30, 2013, 3:44 PM EST) -- The Mosaic Co. and two other Canadian companies agreed Wednesday to pay a combined $97.5 million to settle U.S. direct and indirect purchasers' class action allegations that they took part in an international conspiracy to fix the global price of potash.

Mosaic, Agrium Inc. and Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. will pay $80 million to direct purchasers of the chemical — a key ingredient in agricultural fertilizers — and $17.5 million to indirect purchasers hit further downstream by the alleged price-fixing. In statements issued shortly after...
