Yahoo Braves Murky Waters To Create Online Library

Law360, New York (October 5, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Yahoo Inc. has joined the race to offer a comprehensive online library of digitized books, audio and video, challenging Google Inc.’s efforts already underway and learning from its rival’s legal problems over alleged copyright infringement.

Yahoo’s version, a joint effort with companies like Hewlett-Packard Co. and Adobe Systems Inc., has been dubbed the Open Source Alliance. Like Google, it will make the works searchable online, but will back away from digitizing copyrighted works without consent.
