Google Says FBI Demands Info On Thousands Of Accounts

Law360, New York (March 5, 2013, 10:47 PM EST) -- The FBI asked Google Inc. to disclose information on at least 1,000 of its users last year, making warrantless demands on the company through a controversial and little-known investigative technique that does not require court approval, Google said Tuesday.

While Google has released semiannual transparency reports detailing government requests for user data since 2010, it had not previously included the number of “national security letters” that it had received because the government regularly blocks companies from disclosing them, it said.
