Volvo Buyers Score Class Cert. In Sunroof Defect Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (March 26, 2013, 7:31 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Tuesday certified six statewide classes of car buyers accusing Volvo Cars of North America of selling vehicles with defective sunroof drainage systems, but declined to certify a nationwide class under a New Jersey statute, saying the law couldn't be applied nationally.

U.S. District Judge Dennis M. Cavanaugh granted the plaintiffs' motion for certification of six proposed state subclasses, ruling that the plaintiffs' class definitions were proper, but said a nationwide class couldn't be approved under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud...
