Toyota Pays $16M To Settle Calif. DA's Acceleration Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (April 5, 2013, 9:55 PM EDT) -- Toyota Motor Corp. on Friday agreed to pay $16 million to settle consumer protection claims brought by the district attorney for Orange County, Calif., who said the company had concealed safety issues related to unintended acceleration.

The case was pending in Los Angeles County Superior Court as part of the sudden unintended acceleration lawsuits against Toyota that were coordinated in California. Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas brought the suit in March 2010, after Toyota issued recalls affecting nearly six million vehicles. He sought civil penalties...
