NCAA Trial Abandoned As Settlement Nears

Law360, New York (January 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A trial has been delayed in a federal antitrust lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association over the costs student-athletes pay in expenses and insurance, because a settlement is near.

Stephen Morrissey, an attorney for the plaintiffs with Susman Godfrey LLP, said the parties had vacated the trial date this month while completing a settlement. He said preliminary approval papers should be filed soon.

Morrissey declined to comment further. Fellow plaintiffs' attorney Courtney Palko, with Blecher & Collins PC, also declined comment.
