Sears Hit With Suit Over Customer Data Breaches

Law360, New York (January 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Sears Roebuck & Co. ran afoul of the law by creating a Web site that makes private information about customers accessible to nosy neighbors, marketing companies and hackers, and failing to alert users to the possibility of a security breach, according to a putative class action filed in Illinois state court.

Named plaintiff Christine Desantis filed a complaint, dated Jan. 4, in the Chancery Division of the Cook County Circuit Court, seeking unspecified damages and an injunction that would require Sears to secure the private information...
