FBI Takes Flak Over Proposed Back Door For Online Spying

Law360, New York (April 30, 2013, 9:44 PM EDT) -- An industry lobbying group that includes Internet titans like Google Inc. and Facebook Inc. vowed Tuesday to block a proposal the FBI is reportedly considering, which would penalize companies that didn't give law enforcement access to users' real-time online communications.

In response to reports that the FBI is seeking authority to require Internet companies to install online surveillance back doors in popular Internet products and services or else face criminal penalties, the Internet Association said it would fight the “flawed” proposal.
