Top NY Court Rebuffs Appeal Of AXA’s $42M Art Swindle Win

Law360, New York (May 7, 2013, 5:55 PM EDT) -- New York's high court refused Tuesday to hear an appeal from a group of art investors protesting a ruling that freed an AXA SA subsidiary from covering heavy losses from a notorious gallery swindle involving $42 million worth of artwork.

The decision leaves in tact AXA Art Insurance Corp.'s victory in January in a coverage fight with Renaissance Art Investors LLC stemming from a scheme masterminded by Lawrence Salander of the now-defunct Salander-O'Reilly Galleries.

Attorneys for the parties were not immediately available for comment on Tuesday....
