Deals Rumor Mill: Dish, Alere, Raytheon

Chairman Charlie Ergen lobbed a $2 billion bid for wireless spectrum owned by the bankrupt LightSquared Inc., according to a Tuesday report from Bloomberg. The offer comes ahead of required approvals from the Federal Communications Commission, which must sign off on the spectrum's use. Ergen's move coincides with Dish's $25.5 billion effort to swallow up Sprint Nextel Corp., in line with the company's plans to broaden its offerings to include voice and Internet services. LightSquared, backed by New York hedge fund Harbinger Capital Partners, fell into bankruptcy after regulators did not greenlight its plans to build up its network in light of concerns that it would interfere with signals used by global-positioning systems....
