Pepperidge Farm Hit With False Ad Suit Over 'Natural' Goldfish

Law360, Chicago (June 11, 2013, 2:27 PM EDT) -- Pepperidge Farm Inc. was targeted with a putative class action in California federal court Monday alleging that it falsely marketed its Goldfish crackers as "natural" when certain product flavors, including cheddar, actually contain genetically modified or synthetic ingredients.

Consumer plaintiff Garett Koehler asserts that the "natural" Goldfish claim is false, misleading and likely to deceive reasonable consumers, and says that he relied on that alleged misrepresentation, which he understood to mean that the products contained no genetically modified organism ingredients or other artificial or synthetic ingredients, when he bought the crackers in the fall of 2012.
