AGs Pressure Apple, Others For Smartphone Anti-Theft Fix

Law360, New York (June 13, 2013, 3:16 PM EDT) -- After threatening to sue smartphone makers under consumer fraud statutes over their assertions that the devices help keep users secure, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and other prosecutors met Thursday with tech giants to demand they help blunt a growing crime wave.

Schneiderman and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said they were forming a national effort dubbed “Secure Our Smartphones” aimed at encouraging the cell phone industry to adopt technologies that would deter theft by drying up the secondary market.
