BMI Sues Pandora To Force Licensing Fee Hike

Law360, New York (June 14, 2013, 4:20 PM EDT) -- Broadcast Music Inc. sued music-streaming provider Pandora Media Inc. in New York federal court Thursday after Pandora balked at a licensing fee increase BMI had proposed.

The organization, which licenses music on behalf of more than 600,000 songwriters and publishers, said it had proposed increasing the annual blanket license fee charged to Pandora on March 4 in order to keep the fees consistent with "the exponential growth in subscribers, revenues" and usage of the company's personalized streaming service, but Pandora rejected the offer.
