NYC Official Backs $3B Queens Redevelopment Plan

Law360, New York (July 9, 2013, 6:16 PM EDT) -- Queens Borough President Helen Marshall has given her support to a $3 billion plan to turn the contaminated Willets Point site into a 5-million-square-foot mixed-use neighborhood developed by Sterling Equities Inc. and Related Cos., according to a letter made public Tuesday.

Acknowledging the gargantuan task of cleaning up 100 years worth of contamination at the former ash dump, Marshall recommended that the City Planning Commission approve the plan under several conditions, including continued close monitoring of the phased project by city agencies.
