Senate Dems Urge NYC's MTA To Avoid Using Chinese Steel

Law360, New York (July 15, 2013, 6:57 PM EDT) -- Two top Senate Democrats urged New York City's transit authority on Thursday to avoid buying Chinese steel after reports surfaced that the agency was repairing a local bridge with material from a Chinese state-owned enterprise.

In a letter to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, asked the organization to alter its bidding process to prevent a repeat of the MTA's recent decision to source steel for repairs to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from state-run Angang Steel Group.
