MGM Wins City Support For $800M Mass. Casino

Law360, New York (July 17, 2013, 6:26 PM EDT) -- MGM Resorts International snagged a key win Tuesday when the majority of voters in a Massachusetts town where it hopes to build an $800 million casino agreed to back the project, pushing MGM one step closer to snagging a hotly contested casino license.

In a special referendum, 57.66 percent of Springfield, Mass., voters approved the project, according to city documents. MGM is vying for the state's new Western casino license, which has also had interest from Penn National Gaming Inc. and Hard Rock Cafe International Inc....
