Rutgers Must Tighten Controls In Scandal's Wake, Report Says

Law360, New York (July 22, 2013, 7:03 PM EDT) -- Rutgers University should step up oversight of its relatively autonomous athletics department and form an interdepartmental risk management committee in the wake of the scandal surrounding fired men's basketball coach Mike Rice, according to a report Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP released Monday.

The report called attention to various communication breakdowns within the university's hierarchy and suggested that Rutgers establish more oversight of its athletics program, which had enjoyed relative autonomy for years with little oversight from the board or other top university officials....
