Judge Kills Samsung Infringement Claim In Apple Patent War

Law360, San Francisco (July 31, 2013, 10:33 PM EDT) -- The California federal judge overseeing the smartphone patent row between Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Apple Inc. said Wednesday that Samsung couldn’t claim Apple willfully infringed its patent on multimedia streaming, also ruling that Apple could relaunch antitrust claims against Samsung.

In a lengthy conference Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said that after reviewing U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal's ruling on the willfulness issue, she agreed that there was plenty of evidence showing Samsung knew about the potential claim as far back as 2011. Samsung...
