Visa, MasterCard Say Swipe-Fee Antitrust Claims Fall Flat

Law360, Los Angeles (August 13, 2013, 9:55 PM EDT) -- Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. on Tuesday asked a New York federal court to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by 17 major retailers over the duo's allegedly anti-competitive fees, saying the claims were barred because of release agreements the companies provided years ago.

The decision comes more than a month after Visa and MasterCard said the suit, brought by retailers who rejected a $7.25 billion settlement in related multidistrict litigation, should be paused because the case could join the MDL. The card companies said the lawsuit...
