Chicago Man Snared In HHS Bribery Sting Gets Probation

Law360, Chicago (August 14, 2013, 8:18 PM EDT) -- A Chicago man who admitted he tried to bribe his way into a $25,000 federal grant was sentenced Friday to three years of probation, winning leniency because he did not aim to profit personally from the scheme.

Bryant Jessup, 52, one of seven defendants swept up in an FBI sting operation last year and accused of offering kickbacks for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants, escaped the two-year prison term sought by prosecutors at his sentencing hearing in Illinois federal court.
