Insurance Co. Rates Disclosable, Texas Court Says

Law360, New York (August 29, 2013, 7:08 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court ruled Thursday that several insurers including Texas Farmers Insurance Co. can be compelled under the state insurance code to disclose rate-filing information and can't hide under disclosure exceptions created by Texas' public information act.

The PIA's disclosure exceptions apply to information that can be obtained only through the act, and the Third District Court of Appeals ruled that the PIA doesn't apply to the rate-filing information sought in the case, because it can also be disclosed under the state insurance code. Thursday's...
