Chicago-Area Atty Arrested For Misusing $2.3M From Clients

Law360, Chicago (August 29, 2013, 7:29 PM EDT) -- A Chicago-area lawyer was arrested Thursday and charged with fraud for allegedly misappropriating from a married couple $2.3 million that was entrusted to the attorney for commercial real estate deals.

Kathleen Niew, 57, pled not guilty to 10 counts of mail fraud at her arraignment Thursday afternoon in Illinois federal court. A grand jury returned an indictment against Niew on Tuesday, which was unsealed when the FBI arrested her at her office in Oak Brook, Ill., according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office....
