BP Gets Expedited Appeal In Deepwater Settlement Fight

Law360, New York (September 6, 2013, 7:30 PM EDT) -- The Fifth Circuit on Friday agreed to expedite an appeal challenging BP PLC’s more than $7 billion class action settlement of property damage and economic loss claims stemming from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

U.S. Circuit Judge E. Grady Jolly granted BP’s request to move the appeals process forward quickly. Some class members are challenging the settlement, saying that it has been structured so that businesses and individuals who were not harmed by the spill are being paid similarly to those that were.
