Hospital Group Asks 5th Circ. To OK $130M Deepwater Deal

Law360, Los Angeles (September 10, 2013, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The Louisiana Hospital Association on Tuesday asked the Fifth Circuit to approve a $130 million medical treatment settlement BP PLC struck with a class of 200,000 cleanup workers from the Deepwater Horizon disaster, saying the parties would benefit by avoiding a lengthy trial.

The amicus brief filed by LHA, an organization representing 160 hospitals across the state of Louisiana, comes two months after a handful of objectors told the Fifth Circuit that the deal was unfair and that a lower court disregarded U.S. Supreme Court jurisprudence...
