Homeowners Lose Bid To Move Claims To Calif. State Court

Law360, Los Angeles (September 11, 2013, 8:58 PM EDT) -- A putative class of homeowners lost a bid in California federal court on Wednesday to move to state court their suit accusing Old Republic Home Protection Co. of ripping off those who purchased its warranties.

U.S. District Judge Andrew J. Guilford denied the motion by the class led by Michael D. Friedman to remand the suit to state court, finding that the amount in controversy well exceeded the $5 million needed to land the suit under federal jurisdiction, according to Wednesday’s decision.
